Which DNA Test Should I Get?

To use our service, we need your DNA data to work. Currently we don’t offer our own DNA test, so we recommend these test providers to get your DNA data.

Cheaper Partial Genome Test Options

Results come back in 6-8 weeks. We recommend MyHeritage and Ancestry as our top choices. Also available at Amazon, Target, etc, for some of these tests:

Whole Genome Option, Fastest Results, USA Only

Results can come back in 2-6 weeks. This will be the best since it gives us all of your DNA, but it is also more expensive and complicated to work with.

We tend not to recommend other whole genome sequencing providers since they can take many months to get your results. Some other providers are sequencing.com , nebula.org, Dante Labs, etc.

International Options

If you are not based in the USA, MyHeritage will probably work the best shipping-wise. Ancestry & 23andme and many others also work around the world too. You can also order many of these from the USA and ship to friends, but they will have to ship it back to you in the USA or the processing place in the USA to get their results. DNA is very stable and often lasts up to a year in the little tube you put the sample in.

I Already Did A Test

If you’ve already done a 23andMe, Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, LivingDNA, SelfDecode or Whole Genome Sequencing test, we can use that data now, too. Once you have your test results, follow these instructions to download your raw DNA data. If you’ve gotten your DNA tested somewhere we did not mention, we might be able to use their data, too. Clinical DNA tests ordered through your doctor will probably not work since they usually only test very small portions of your DNA.
